Think About It

I don't want to alarm or scare anyone but I need to tell you all about something that is concerning me quite a bit.  The fact is that dog-nappings are on the rise, especially here in my hometown of New York City.  I just wanted to take a minute to say, please do not leave your dog unattended, ever.  My friend Bill Berloni talked to Fox 5 about it a little more in detail here:

Sunny's On Annie!

Very exciting news!  It’s thrilling for me to let you know about my buddy, Sunny.  I wanted to share some photos I took of her amazing journey and tell you a little about her.

Sunny came from a shelter in Houston, Texas.  She was rescued by my co-worker, the Director of Animal Behavior, Bill Berloni.  Our friend Rob Cox brought Sunny to the Humane Society of New York in his car!  They visited me and my doctor friends so she could get her check-up.

Everything went marvelously and right after the doc gave her the “paws up”, she traveled with Bill over to a street called Broadway.  She went to a special audition and now…

You can see her in the role of “Sandy” on a show called Annie!    A round of applause for my friends!

Thanks Dr. Rubinstein!

See ya later!

A Salute to Military Working Dogs

Have I already mentioned that I'm so very proud of my dog friends?  Another reason is in this video.

A Mother's Love

I am so proud of some of the things my friends do!

A Mother's Love
During an early morning response to a house fire, firefighters were amazed.
A mother dog risked her life to save her puppies from the fire surrounding the burning house...
The mother dog, Amanda, raced back and forth between the house, putting her 10 day old puppies in the safest place she could find - a fire truck!
She didn't stop racing back into the fire until all of her puppies were safely away from the fire.
The firemen on scene could not believe their eyes. Most people have never seen a dog this smart or this brave!

After rescuing all of her pups from the blaze, Amanda sat down next to them, protecting them with her body.
Onlookers called an emergency veterinary service and she and her pups were rushed to the hospital.
Aside from one puppy being treated for serious burns, the entire family are alive and well - thanks to the bravery of Amanda!
What a heroic mother! :)

Amazing Gorilla Video

Isn't this video just amazing?  I had to share it with you, my friends! It's hard to imagine something like this happening.  They are so lucky to have been able to film and experience such an incredible encounter!

The Walk

A couple of friends sent this my way and I wanted to share it because it is just so sweet!  Every day, at the same time, this cat waits for this dog to walk by.  When he does, she jumps down to join him!  How cute?!

Schoolhouse Rocks!

Sometimes, a group of students will come visit me at the HSNY to learn all about what we do.  Other times, my Aunt Anne-Marie will take one of my buddies like Toby, to a classroom and talk to them about the work we do in our clinic & shelter.

Toby and Anne-Marie recently visited one such school and I hear it was a great time!  The children even prepared all these handmade pet beds and cat sock toys for my buddies to use here!  Aren't they awesome?!

Thank you so much to Class 302 for the thoughtful donation!

Kiss Me, I'm Willis!

Had such fun on St. Patrick's Day! I love a parade and it's always nice to see New Yorker's get together for a celebration. I had the honor of marching alongside my fellow NYC celebrities wearing my Ralph Lauren cashmere sweater (a gift from an admirer...blush) and my leprechaun hat. Spring is tomorrow - yay!

Beer For Beasts II

I am looking forward to having a "howlin" good time next Saturday at Beer For Beasts II! Our friends at Sixpoint and Beer Advocate are having their amazing event again on March 31st. The following design was made for a limited edition t-shirt.

I may have added a small detail of my own...

STOP!

And think...before you leave your dog alone in a car, tied to a pole outside a store, or even in your own backyard. Dog thefts are on the rise, and with your attention they can be prevented. Your dog's walk should not also be an errand run. Go to the store after the walk or before - don't put your beloved pet in harms' way.

Spring Is In The Air

We've had such pretty weather here in New York City! It's so nice to open the windows to let in the fresh air. But please make sure that your window has secure window screens! Not just child safety bars, but good old-fashioned screens. So many cat buddies of mine have fallen out of windows, and sadly, a lot of them don't survive. So, Stay safe and enjoy!

Watch Where You Take Your Bath

I'm glad I was never in Westminster Dog Show - they have to take so many baths! Grrrr...But bathing is important and should be a pleasant experience, not a scary one. Before you take your pet to a groomer ask if they use drying cages. If they do, DON'T GO THERE!!! They can overheat and are very dangerous! I lost a good buddy of mine a couple of years ago because he was left alone in a drying cage. It still hurts to think about it.

NASDAQ

NOTE: This photo is NOT photoshopped!
I was representing the Humane Society of New York with my many friends, closing the year out as the bell rang at NASDAQ on December 23, 2011. I have to admit I was touched that they put me up on the kiosk in Times Square!
